Federal Legislation - HR 127 "The Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act"

"House of Representative (H.R.) bill #127 is titled "The Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act."  The bill has been described as "tyrannical" because it will turn law-abiding citizens into felons overnight.  The bill’s requirements include, among other things, that:

(1) every gun owned regardless of purchase date must be registered, including antique and military-styled guns, and information about the owner must be entered into a database developed and maintained by the Attorney General of the United States, through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; (2) every gun owner must acquire a license issued by the Attorney General; (3) every registered gun owner must obtain insurance issued by the Attorney General at the cost of $800 every year; (4) no gun may be given to or loaned to anyone under the age of 18; and if over the age of 18, neither given nor loaned to anyone not registered, unless the Attorney General has been notified; and (5) possession of ammunition above 0.50 is prohibited.  The penalties for violating any provision of the Act (when and if enacted) are draconian, such as failure to register a gun will subject the owner to not less than a $75,000 but not more than a $150,000 fine and not less than 15 years but not more than 25 years imprisonment!  There are penalties for loaning a gun to a minor, as well as failure to obtain insurance, that are just as horrible.
